Philippines: Coast guard gets 18 modern motorboats

The Philippine Coast Guard yesterday morning inaugurated at least 18 newly acquired modern motor boats at the grandstand of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao at Upper Calarian, this city.

Coast Guard District Commander Southwestern Mindanao, Commodore Leopoldo Laroya who led the inaugural rites, called his men to use the speedboats proficiently in their fight against criminality, piracy and other coast guard related activities at sea.

Laroya said the modern motor boats were purchased by their head office, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), purposely to augment their fighting capabilities and security patrol in Mindanao.
