116 fishermen released from Sri Lankan jails arrive in India

TRICHY: More than 100 fishermen from the state arrived at the Karaikkal port on Tuesday morning after their release from Sri Lankan prisons. They belong to Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Jegathapattinam and Rameshwaram. 

Totally, 116 fishermen came in 26 boats after they were released by the Sri Lankan authorities. They were handed over to the Coast Guard officials on Monday afternoon near the international maritime boundary line. Coast Guard personnel supervised their transfer from the Sri Lankan authorities and brought them to the coast on Tuesday morning.

The maximum number of returnees – 87 — belonged to Ramanathapuram. Residents of Jegathapattinam in Pudukkottai numbered 19. Fishermen from Thanjavur and Nagapattinam were six and four, respectively.
