OSLO, April 11 (Bernama) — The number of piracy attacks on ships in the Indian Ocean has gone down as no ships were hijacked in almost two years, an official from the Norwegian Foreign Ministry said.
Norwegian State Secretary Baard Glad Pedersen said no ships on international sea routes in the Indian Ocean off the African coast has been hijacked in 24 months thanks to successful preventive measures at sea, China’s Xinhua news agency reports.
“The reduction in the number of attacks on ships in the Indian Ocean is a positive development. At the same time, there are still attacks on shipping,” Pedersen said in a press release.
