The Nigerian Navy will be hosting the 2014 edition of Exercise OBANGAME EXPRESS from 16 – 24 April 2014 in Lagos, Nigeria. Exercise OBANGAME EXPRESS is an annual combined naval exercise sponsored by the United States Naval Forces Africa. It is aimed at promoting interagency, international and inter-regional cooperation amongst friendly maritime nations. The overall objectives are to exercise each of the participating countries capabilities in maritime domain awareness and maritime interdiction operations.
A total of 23 countries will take part in this year’s edition of Exercise OBANGAME. However, 11 of these countries will be participating in Lagos Area. They are: Nigeria, Benin Republic, Cameroun, Equatorial Guinea and German. Others include Ghana, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Togo and United States of America. Some of the observer agencies participating in the Exercise include the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Nigerian Ports Authority and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The Honourable Minister of Defence, Lieutenant General Aliyu Gusau Mohammed (rtd) is the Special Guest of Honour while the Chief of the Naval Staff, Nigeria, Vice Admiral UO Jibrin is the Chief Host of the event.
