Lagos — Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have both reiterated their commitment to aerial surveillance of the Nigerian maritime domain as a way of protecting the nation’s economy from poaching, oil theft, piracy and other unlawful activities.
The two organisations were unanimous on the strategic importance of the maritime sector to the economic growth and sustenance of the Nigerian state at a recent sensitization programme on a 2013 Memorandum of Understanding by both organisations aimed at boosting maritime security in Nigeria.
NIMASA’s Director General, Ziakede Akpobolokemi and Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshall Adesola Nunayon Amosu expressed optimism in the success of the pact which will see the air force strengthening NIMASA’s patrol, interdiction arrest and reconnaissance through aerial surveillance.
