Officials of the Joint Task Force (JTF) codenamed Operation Pulo Sheild on Monday during surveillance at sea in the Niger Delta reportedly recovered heavy arms and ammunition from sea pirates.
This was made known in a statement issued by Lieutenant-Colonel Ado Isa, Coordinator, Joint Media Campaign Centre, a copy obtained by Nigerian Tribune.
He said the sea pirates had initially attacked the JTF troops on January 8, 2015, before the security operatives stormed into them during a routine patrol on the country’s waterways.
“Troops of the JTF have rescued Mr Julius Omeregie, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen at Okhuaihie community in Uhumwode Local Government Area of Edo State,” he said.
Isa further hinted that the arms were recovered after the JTF carried out search operations which were conducted by the 146 battalion of the task force.
“During the operation, one AK-47 rifle with registration number 02430 and Butt number 897 were recovered together with two magazines loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition each,” he said.
