Sri Lankan government to receive report of the investigation into the floating armory this week

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of Sri Lanka Police this week will submit the report of the investigation into the floating armory discovered at the Gall port earlier this year.

State Minister for Defense, Ruwan Wijewardene told state newspaper Sunday Observer that the CID investigation into the vessel carrying the weapons had been “closely monitored” by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, given its potentially international security ramifications.

Sri Lanka police discovered the container-carrying vessel “Mahanuwara” docked at the Galle Harbor on January 18 and detained the vessel after 12 containers found to contain weapons.

The vessel detained at the Galle Harbor was found to be a floating storage armory belonging to Avant-Garde Security Firm which, according to the firm, provides security to ships against the Somali pirates.
