Bootle ex-soldier Paul Towers still stuck in India despite gun-running charges being dropped

A Merseyside ex-soldier who has been held in India for more than 18 months has been told he faces a further wait before he knows whether or not he will be freed.

Paul Towers, originally from Bootle, was arrested on gun-running charges along with the 35-strong crew of the anti-piracy support vessel, MV Seaman Guard Ohio, in October 2013.

Despite numerous court hearings – including one which saw all charges against them being dropped back in July – their passports have not been returned and they are unable to leave India.
